A standard TV has an LCD/LED display. They're thicker than OLED displays and offer an average amount of color, brightness, and darkness. OLED TVs have better contrast and black level. It can completely turn off unused pixels to make the blacks in movies and TV shows blacker. QLED TVs are brighter. Some people prefer QLED TVs for their brightly lit rooms.
Because LCD/LED displays are typical, they tend to be cheaper. QLEDs are more similar to LCD/LED TVs, so they're the next most affordable option. OLED (not an LED TV) has self-lighting pixels (LED uses a backlight), so OLED tends to be more expensive. However, OLED does typically offer better picture quality.
The materials in and around your TV increase the cost.
When considering the cost, people tend to forget about everything outside of the display and smart features. Some TVs are made of plastic, while others are made of metal. Some built-in speakers equip Dolby Atmos, while others provide no extra upgrades. Many manufacturers just want you to spend more money on their soundbars.
The size of the TV also changes your price.

When looking for TVs, do you check for a refresh rate or dimming zones? Probably not. The more expensive TVs provide a better refresh rate with less motion blur and smaller dimming zones. If a TV offers Dolby Vision or HDR10, it will cost more.
Lastly, the release date has a lot to do with the price. If it's a TV released in 2022, you're going to pay a pretty penny. If it's a TV released in 2020 or 2021, you can generally get it a couple of hundred dollars cheaper, if you can find them.
There are a lot of different specs that go into pricing a TV. There are many cheaper TVs out there that offer a great picture quality if that's all you're looking for, and many people are. They want something they can watch football or NCIS on and a $500 TV can definitely get the job done. However, if you're looking for something comparable to a movie theater experience on a $500 TV, you're not getting it.
